Hanford Redox Roof Recovery

Location: Richland, WA
Size: 25,000 SF
Services Provided: Structural Engineering

Meier provided Structural Engineering design services to construct a lightweight metal roof over an existing leak-prone roof, creating a weatherproof attic space. The existing roof of the 202S building was a floating concrete roof, 5 to 9 inches thick. Due to this existing structure, the design of the new overbuild roof was complex. Moreover, the roof was approximately 65 feet above the ground, leading to relatively high wind forces that complicated both design and construction. Seismic considerations were also taken into account.
